Macromedia Flash Video
FLV (Flash Video) is a file format used to deliver video over the Internet to the Macromedia Flash Player version 6, 7 or 8. FLV content may also be embedded within a SWF (Shockwave File). Notable users of the FLV format include Google Video and YouTube. Flash Video is viewable on most operating systems, via the Macromedia flash player or one of several third-party programs such as MPlayer.
FLV files can be delivered in three different ways:
-
Progressively downloaded via HTTP (supported in Flash Player 7 and later)

Blank Motion generally use Flash Video to display video content on the web as it has a number of benefits:
-
Is streamable and allows the user to watch the video while they download it
-
Generally smaller file size compared to a Quicktime video
-
Secure. The video being played is more secure and less easily downloadable by the client (if this is a requirement of the project)
-
Integration. Its easier to integrate a Flash Video into your website and make it appear as thought its part of the design
